Weight loss offers numerous benefits in terms of health and physical fitness. Losing weight is all about improving one’s life. Typically, doctors usually advice overweight patients to shed off some fat in order to prevent health complications like cardiovascular diseases. In addition, shedding excess fat improves one’s physical appearance and even self-esteem. Currently, there are numerous medical and natural ways proven to enhance fast weight loss. Some medical approaches include taking weight loss pills and invasive surgery to remove excess fat among others. On the other hand, natural approaches include physical exercise and diet routines among others. Practically, people propose of additional ways of losing weight, some of which have no truth at all. In the recent past, there have been numerous myths relating to the subject of weight loss. The top 3 myths related to weight loss are discussed below.

Avoiding Food

Avoiding food features as one commonly propagated myth about weight loss. Some people believe that starving oneself is the best approach to shedding off excess fat. However, truth is that your body needs food for energy purposes. Weight gain usually occur when one consumes excess calories than the body needs in a day. The excess calories in then converted into fat, hence causing weight gain. Avoiding food means denying your body the necessary calorie requirement per day. This makes your body to be low in energy, thus craving for sugary food. In this case, the sugary food will supply excess calories to your body, which in turn induces weight gain.

Exercise is the only way

Apart from self-starvation, people always claim that physical exercise is the only way to lose weight. Truth is that there are other numerous ways to shed excess weight that does not involve radical exercises. In fact, ehic agrees that effective weight loss involves making small adjustments to one’s diet. Practically, a person may do exercise yet still consume foods that supply excess calories to the body. In this case, the body will still convert the excess calories to fat. This means that exercise does not necessarily induce weight loss. Even during exercise routines, losing weight requires eating less food that only provides the necessary energy requirement for the body.

Healthy food Costs more

Cost of healthy food is another common myth concerning weight control. Most people prefer fast foods which are high in fat and salt because they think they are cheap compared to healthy alternatives. In fact, the truth is contrary to this common belief. Healthy alternatives usually include fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition, steamed potatoes are another alternative. They provide much-needed energy for the body. However, fried potatoes like French fries contain excess calories because of the added fat. When the two are compared, it is undeniable that steamed potatoes are cheaper to prepare than the fried ones. Another commonly confused food is margarine and butter. In price context, butter is usually cheaper than margarine. However, most people prefer margarine because they think it is healthy than butter. Truth is that butter, which is cheaper, contains less saturated fat than margarine. In this context, saturated fat causes weight gain. Therefore, the claim that healthy food is expensive is technically misplaced.
